My name is Cody Dacus. I was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming and am actively looking for a career in wildland firefighting. I love the outdoors, hiking, hunting, and challenging myself to become a more skilled and disciplined team member.

Qualified A Sawyer

I am qualified as an A sawyer through the S112 program put on by the Colorado Fire Camp and fell in love with running and operating chainsaws. Over the 2026 summer, I worked part time as a fuels reduction laborer and logged more than 200+ hours on multiple different types of Stihl Saws (044, and 066) and matured my saw skills through many hours of long & hot felling and bucking operations on Casper Mountain. It may not seem like a lot, but I have drastically improved my sills in heavy dense green and dead brush thickets that tend to easily dull chains. I am proud to say that I clean and maintain my saw as if it was my own and keep it ready and sharp at the end of the day. While I understand I am just starting my skills with the saw, I am confident that I have become reliable and skilled with basic saw work.

I am really wanting to work towards my B and C qualifications and am looking for a crew and/or district that can help me achieve these goals while striving to be an asset to any crew that I am apart of.

PHYSICAL ENDURANCE

Physical fitness is important to me and I love pushing myself on long hikes with heavy weight. One of my favorite things I do to keep my fitness high is participating in local marathons and adventure races.  Last year my father and I participated in Competition Dynamic's "Sniper Adventure Challenge", which is an arduous 40+ mile race over mountainous and desert terrain via map & compass orienteering with a 50 lb pack. Much of the race format requires 24-36 hours of hiking with little to no sleep over that time. I am no stranger to blisters and aching feet and can keep pushing through my exhaustion to reach the next goal.

I am able to effectively read maps, properly use a compass and can navigate to any location needed if given the right information.

Completed the 40+ mile Sniper Adventure Challenge, navigating rugged mountainous terrain with a 50lb pack using only a map and compass.

Leadership & Command

Developed a robust command structure through rigorous JROTC training. This experience provided the technical foundation and leadership discipline required to lead teams in high-stakes environments and maintain operational excellence.
